Flooring Types

What We Install

Solid Hardwood

Traditional solid wood planks, typically 3/4" thick. Nail-down installation over wood subfloors. Can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifetime. Best for main floors and bedrooms.

Benefits

  • Long lifespan (50–100 years)
  • Can be refinished multiple times
  • Adds resale value

Keep in mind

  • Not suitable for basements or high-moisture areas
  • Requires wood subfloor
  • Longer acclimation period

Engineered Hardwood

Real wood veneer over a plywood core. More dimensionally stable than solid hardwood — handles Alberta's dry winters and humid summers better. Can be glued, floated, or nailed down.

Benefits

  • Handles humidity fluctuations well
  • Can be installed over concrete
  • Real wood look and feel

Keep in mind

  • Limited refinishing (1–2 times depending on veneer thickness)
  • Higher cost than laminate

Laminate

High-density fibreboard core with a photographic wood layer and protective wear coat. Floats over the subfloor — no glue or nails. Durable, scratch-resistant, and budget-friendly.

Benefits

  • Most affordable option
  • Scratch and dent resistant
  • Easy to maintain

Keep in mind

  • Cannot be refinished
  • Not waterproof (standard laminate)
  • Can sound hollow underfoot

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

100% waterproof rigid-core planks that look like hardwood. Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and anywhere moisture is a concern. Floats over almost any existing subfloor.

Benefits

  • 100% waterproof
  • Warm and comfortable underfoot
  • Works over radiant heat

Keep in mind

  • Cannot be refinished
  • Lower resale value perception vs. hardwood
  • Quality varies widely by brand

Stair Installation

We install hardwood, laminate, or LVP on staircases — treads, risers, and nosing. Stairs require more precision and time than flat floors, which is reflected in per-stair pricing.

Benefits

  • Transforms the look of your home
  • Matches your main floor flooring
  • Durable and easy to clean

Keep in mind

  • More labour-intensive than flat floors
  • Requires precise measurement and cutting
  • Nosing style affects final look

Baseboard Installation

We supply and install baseboard trim to finish off any flooring project. Baseboards cover the expansion gap between the floor and wall, giving every room a clean, polished look. Available in a range of profiles to match your home's style.

Benefits

  • Clean, finished look on every install
  • Covers expansion gaps neatly
  • Wide range of profiles available

Keep in mind

  • Paint it after install for best results
  • Existing baseboards may need removal first
  • Mitre cuts required at corners

Common Questions

What People Ask Us

Do you supply the flooring or do I?

You supply the flooring — we handle the installation. We're labour-only, so you purchase your materials from whichever supplier you choose and we take it from there.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes — we require 50% of the total project cost as a deposit on the day the work begins, with the remaining 50% due on the day the job is completed. This is outlined in your written quote before any work starts.

Is GST included in your prices?

No — all listed prices are before GST. A 5% GST charge applies to all labour services as required by the Canada Revenue Agency. Your final written quote will show the subtotal and GST as separate line items so there are no surprises.

How long does installation take?

A typical 500–800 sq ft main floor takes 1–2 days. Stairs add half a day. Larger homes or complex layouts take longer. We'll give you a firm timeline in your quote.

Do I need to move my furniture?

Yes — the area needs to be clear before we arrive. If you need help moving furniture, we do offer that service. Per-room and whole-house rates are listed in our pricing above.

Do you travel outside Calgary?

Yes — we serve all of Alberta. Whether you're in Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, or a rural property, we'll make the trip for the right project. Travel may be factored into the quote for jobs far outside Calgary.

What flooring is best for Alberta's climate?

Alberta's dry winters and warm summers cause wood to expand and contract. Engineered hardwood and LVP handle this better than solid hardwood. If you want solid hardwood, proper acclimation (5–7 days on-site) and a humidifier in winter are important.

Can I see examples of your work before hiring?

Absolutely — check out our gallery page for photos of completed projects across Calgary and Alberta. You can also follow us on Facebook where we post new installs regularly.
